Below is an image containing six of my current favorite items, which I have expanded upon below:
Item 1: The Lightning Thief, by Rick Riordan – Percy Jackson and the Olympians was the book series that jumpstarted my love for reading. This is the first book in the series, which I had read in fourth grade because of my sister’s recommendation. I remember loving the book so much that I had stayed up all Friday night in fourth grade in order to read it in one sitting, finishing the book early Saturday morning before I even attempted to go to sleep.
Item 2: Noise-Cancelling Headphones – I can’t imagine a day or time when I’m not listening to music. These headphones, in addition to being comfortable, prevent me from being distracted by blocking out outside noise, allowing me to truly get invested in whatever sound I’m listening to.
Item 3: Wooden Ring – I had gotten this ring on a trip to St. Maarten’s with my friends, the first trip I had taken in a very long time. I wanted a memento from my brief stint on the island and was struck by its symmetrical design, each half of the rounded symbol containing seven silver dots (my favorite number).
Item 4: Notebook – One of my most consistent hobbies is creative writing. I mainly use this notebook to brainstorm and outline potential story ideas, which I often refer to when writing. Without this notebook, most of my ideas would not be nearly as understandable as they presently are.
Item 5: Hades, by Supergiant Games – Hades is a video game that I was gifted this past Christmas. While I’ve had the least amount of time with it when compared to other items in this list, I have been enamored by the game’s vibrant art direction, fast-paced action, and incredible story since the moment I downloaded it. Considering I haven’t played a video game in about 10 years, I’m glad this is the first one I played in my free time.
Item 6: Sneakers – These red sneakers are not only my favorite color, but they were also a gift I gave myself for my nineteenth birthday. Not only do I like the look of the shoe, but I also love how they feel on my feet–a definite plus since I’m always moving.
I like the way your objects tell a story in a way that only you could really understand, but the positioning of these objects gives the viewer a more concrete telling. Additionally, I think the way you’ve placed your computer open, with the headphones hanging off of it is particularly interesting, although I think that becomes the focus of your piece so I’m wondering if there could have been a way to incorporate your pieces in a way that makes every object more accentuated.
