For my installation, I wanted to build a structure that connected the cracks of greenery in a sidewalk with more common ideas of nature; I also wanted to incorporate shadows as a main part of the composition. Doing these studies was harder than I thought. While I don’t really like any of these models, I tried to make each study focus on either folding paper [Model 1], cutting and interweaving paper [Model 2], or cutting and arranging paper pieces [Model 3].
One of the main ideas I was focusing on was bringing elements from one ‘side’ of the sculpture and having them flow into other elements from different orientations.
I definitely need to take better pictures and smooth out the surface, but this is a good summation of what I’m currently working on.
In order to build these structures, I used a combination of coils, cubes, and spheres. While I didn’t have a theme as I was working, I wanted each sculpture to have its elements blend into the each other. One thing I did struggle with, however, was creating consistently smooth textures on the sculptures’ surface.
